Bérénice Mayaux: Abstract Beans

18 - 31 August 2020
Overview

Laurent Delaye Gallery is delighted to announce its new program of exhibitions in Ramsgate. The gallery will mix site specific projects and a home-based gallery. It will promote young and established artists from Britain and abroad, and work in collaboration with the diverse cultural actors of the area. We look forward to welcoming you to the delightful town of Ramsgate, its stunning architecture, natural reserves and riveting coastal line, and to enjoy art with us.

Our first show was a solo exhibition of French artist Bérénice Mayaux. It took place from 18 to 31 August in Addington Street at both Eats ‘n’ Beats and The Vinyl Head Gallery.  Eats ‘n’ Beats is a café run by former Squeeze bassist, Keith Wilkinson and artist manager Meredith Cork, known for organising unusual and eclectic music events and fabulous cocktails.  Addington Street is a Georgian architectural jewel, which was the grand high street of the Victorians and runs to the harbour, in a quaint and charming half derelict way.

Bérénice Mayaux is a painter living in Paris and Los Angeles. She creates rich compositions freely moving from spontaneous images to meticulously planned structures. She mixes at will rigorous abstraction, vibrant organic forms, and unexpected figuration. Her range of experimentation is wide, and she is as interested in multidimensional space as in intricate colour grades and light spectrum. Her drawings sensually play with the fluid passage of the brush while her paintings are striking for their extremely complex precision.
