Artist statement: These works were made almost 4 years ago in response to the U.S. election and the fast emerging post truth world. They came out of trying to negotiate the question of how to maintain an artistic practice rooted in abstraction whilst trying to grapple with the troubling context of world events unfolding beyond the studio. It started with a clipping from a Newspaper framed with the American Stripes after that ill-fated election. The old certainties of the analogue world where the newspaper held the role of regulating information now replaced with an increasingly complex and unfolding information reality – a fractured space, where the proliferation of multiple media sources is increasingly accompanied by a lack of understanding about how these sources of information are produced and how they might be manipulated.
