Rosalind Davis
Rosalind Davis is an artist whose central concern is the transformation and reconfiguration of space through her paintings and wider multi-disciplinary work which includes installation, sculpture, photography and drawing. Beginning with the highly rational language of architecture as her primary source, Davis reassembles its geometries to create new, multifaceted spaces.
With a number of paintings in the series ‘This Unfolds’ (2014-20), Davis started with photographs of the undersides of two buildings, both of cultural significance; Caixa Foundation designed by Herzog de Meuron in Madrid and Quai Branly in Paris, Davis merged the two different spaces and forms; re-visualizing, re-constructing and reconfiguring architectural elements to create a third space of multi-dimensional environments. Various portal like openings allude to the boundaries between physical and psychological boundaries; connecting and disconnecting boundaries and pathway intimating a more personalised space and environment of one’s own creation.
