In the summer of 2020, during the height of the Covid pandemic, Oddy exhibited his Oscar Niemeyer in Algeria series Concrete Spring at the Niemeyer designed French Communist Party Headquarters in Paris. During the exhibition Oddy explored the building with his 5x4 camera. Spectre is one of the works he made there, its title as well as its liquid surfaces and elusive reflections intimating that the spectre of communism that Marx declared once haunted Europe has now been reduced to a ghost of its former self.
