As concrete expressions of the aspiration to global harmony and order the United Nations headquarters in New York and Geneva are instances of superlative design. In the photographs Oddy made in these twin seats of world government he sought to isolate and accentuate some of their most salient features. Although ostensibly a place of peace and negotiations, here two bristling rows of microphones hint at the antagonisms forever simmering just beneath its surface.
